This morning I read this article about Rev. Jeffrey Gee, pastor of Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church in Herrin, IL. Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church is a smaller membership church which averages about 65 people in Sunday morning worship. This small church is making a big impact on the community.
Read the article and you will note that Rev. Gee saw a need and found a way to meet the need. His ministry connects with a marginalized segment of the population (former convicts, at-risk youth, etc.), and empowers them to be productive members of the community.
Caring for at-risk groups within your community is a great way to be the hands and feet of Jesus. By helping people, you restore their dignity and earn the right to share the gospel with them. How can your church make an impact in your community? Look around town. What are some unmet needs that your church can provide assistance? It doesn’t have to be costly. Prayerfully consider creative ways to meet needs.
